COLOR CORRECTION CASE STUDY:
Kevin provided color correction and cinematography services for the NeuroLeadership Institute over the course of two major projects, numbering 10 videos that they made for Altria and Nova Chem.
In addition to providing pre-made training materials, the Institute created multiple personalized internal communications videos for the companies that involved shooting original content (the interview-style footage) and integrating it with company-provided b-roll footage.
From a color perspective, this created two unique challenges. First, we needed to create an overall color grade that simultaneously matched the Institute's clean, corporate style and the companies' own cultures. Secondly, much of the provided b-roll needed to be repaired and matched to fit with the high production values of the interviews.
Samples of Interview Video Color Grading & Correction
Shot on cinema-grade cameras, the interview footage came from the camera in a 'flat picture profile,' which allowed for the greatest quality to be extracted from the image during color correction. The color grading process required that the footage first be normalized, and then specific cosmetic, focus, and aesthetic enhancements were performed.
Much of the provided company b-roll footage was often poorly shot, from a technical perspective, and required significant fixes, as can be seen in the after/before shots below. As one of the colorist's best benefits to a video production team, they can often transform unusable footage into viable options.
